Well let me see where my last post ended...Oh yah,at the trailer of "Plan Your Love".Gosh,there's too much to update.Lets make it short & precised.
Milkyway Production won best PSA ( public service announcement) video at the Festival Filem & Video Pelajar ke- 8 at UUM. It was our first team effort & win which made all of us shockingly happy & ecstatic, considering we went through hurdles of troubles and emotions to finish a short 3 minute video.Being only 1st year students, we didn't expect to win anything yet, beginner's luck or not, we felt honoured =)
Our seniors won the Jury Award for their PSA too!It was a worth it full bus trip from UPM to UUM.
Next, as our exams were around the corner, our lecturer encouraged us to participate in the USM Adwave video competition (while still,racing to complete our documentary assignment). The Adwave's theme was "promoting domestic tourism through mobile internet devices". At first we were like "what..". Okay fine,maybe it's the growing trend of teenagers & the public of using tech stuff 24/7 these days (including us), but we got stuck as we didn't know what or how we wanted to focus on. Finally, we decided on our mutual Malaysian interest,,,,,,FOOD! Considering we didn't have much time left, ice kacang was all that came in mind. So poof!!Came the ice kacang advertisement!It took us a tiring rushing 3 days to complete pre,production,and post all at once.
Guess what, we got lucky enough to make it to the finalists selection!The difference was, we had to present our marketing proposal to a panel of judges...*raised eyebrows*. We ain't no marketing people,we're just broadcasting students and that came as a surprise to us. None the less, we tried our best anyways..(though i was kind of bombarded with tough questions i twisted my way around with,haha!). The finalists were all GOOD...tip top marketing proposals & skills, high-tech adobe after effects animation!I was wowed at the end,like literally dropped my jaw, because..our video was so simple..like seriously..PEANUT-cendol- ice kacang simple!!
Finally...woohoo!!We won second place!!And i was so happy when my long-time friends Ain,Alya,Majdiah and Dayah accompanied me from the day of the presentation till the closing ceremony!Muah3!!
The moment we arrived back to UPM, our work wasn't over yet. We still needed to complete our documentary assignment within a few days!!Our topic was Oyiza,who's also part of Milkyway Production team. She was really a darling throughout the Adwave & documentary shooting.All of us were so lucky to get such a sporting hardworking team, and mind you, "The Other Side" (the title of our doc) was our first experience shooting with real broadcasting equipments eg; camera, boom mic, track, etc.
We even went all the way to KLIA just to take a few visuals of Oyiza coming down the escalator,haha.Guess how much we spent?Almost rm500.Yup...then,we started to feel the pinch of working in this field. This kind of work really does empty our pockets alright.
Though in a rushing manner, we completed our assignment,well...not to the best we could,but still okay, it was a hella good experience =)
Our final assignment for the semester was the MOST challenging one of all...shooting a short film. And all of us had to present our short film script within 12hours!I wrote "2am" which was a thriller from 12am till about 6am! You can bet how horrible the script was,i didn't have time to even re-adjust or check it.
We started shooting right after our exams.Yes,we didn't enjoy our holidays for one-month at least.For those weeks, stress was over our heads as we started shooting in the morning & wrapping up almost 2am.Definitely an eye-opening adventure since the script required a lot of night time scenes. Again, as first timers using equipments like lighting, we fumbled a bit here & there.Thank God the whole team including the actors were supportive with each other.Cooperation & focus were much vital during the shooting.It was this experience that got Milkyway Production closer than ever.
We did complete the shooting but we didn't have enough time for the post-production as all of us had other commitments as well.So we decided to stall the process and continue next semester (too bad i wouldn't be around to help the team complete it,i'll explain in my next post).Our goal for this short film is to submit for the KL Film Festival 2012 next year.
Hopefully it would be as good as expected.Sometimes, when you have all these expectations, it can be a burden and it can be a motivation too..depending on how one sees & responds.
